I've tried this before and I had to push too many buttons to talk. I didn't like the hassle.

  • PC2Call is not like this. We use the most up-to-date technology in the provision of our products and services. Because we have the latest technology, we are able to offer you Internet communication in 'full duplex'. This means the conversation is interactive, much the same as a conventional call from one telephone to another. With PC2Call there will be no more 'walkie-talkie' style conversations.

How will I know if I can speak to the person I dialled?

  • Voice Chat has status symbols which show whether you can contact a person in your phone book, and if not why not. Green means a person is available for a chat; they are both registered and online. Red means the person is already in a chat. Yellow means the person is not registered with PC2Call . In this case you only need to contact them and tell them to register. Finally, black means the person is offline.

Do I need anything else to be able to Voice Chat?

I do not see that the other person is online for chat but I know they are. I can hear the other person but they cannot hear me.

  • You must be behind NAT (Network Address Translation). Voice Chat does not work for users trying to call when they are behind NAT or a web proxy. Please contact your network administrator or your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for more information.

I get a message "system error tariff".

  • If you get this message it indicates that the destination you are trying to reach is either "unsupported" (non-geographical number such as a premium rate number) or the number has been dialled incorrectly.
  • To dial a number using PC2Call, you must input the number as if you were dialling internationally.
  • For example: To dial a number in London UK - lets say 02071234567 - you would type the number as follows:
    1. Start with the country code. The UK is 44
    2. Remove the first digit (0) from the area code - in this case it would be 207
    3. Input the remaining digits as normal.
  • The result would be: >442071234567
  • To see a list of country codes, click here

During the initialisation of the dialling pad, the window freezes.

  • This can be caused by a conflict with Norton Crash Guard or Clean Sweep running at the same time. If you have either of these running on your system, you should disable them before using PC2Call.

Top

I have a "session not valid" message.

  • If you have been logged on to PC2Call for longer than 2 hours, the session becomes invalid. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized use of your account. Simply log in again to continue using PC2Call

What is a full duplex sound card?

  • A full duplex sound card is one that allows you to receive and send voice at the same time. In a telephone conversation, this means that you can speak and listen simultaneously.

Top

I have an "unable to start audio/media channel" message.

  • This message means that you are probably running another program that uses the sound card such as playing an audio CD. This prevents PC2Call from functioning.

Top

What if I move to a new web page while making a call?

  • You can surf while calling PC2Call. The same bandwidth will be used for the call and the browse, so the quality may be degraded. It depends on the speed of your connection.

Top

How do I get a login and a password?

  • During the registration process, you will be asked to choose a 'login and password'. This is to enable you to access your private account. You should remember it for future use, but never disclose your password to anyone.

Top

How long does it take to download?
